The Anchorage

Port Denning, Cornwall

Sleep above
the harbour

Six rooms in a slightly wonky Georgian townhouse, thirty steps from the water. Independent, family-run, and quietly obsessed with breakfast.

(gulls, bells, bacon)

No. 4

Small hotel,
big personality.

We are not a chain and it shows. The floors slope, the art is odd, the welcome is real. If you want a lobby, we have a hallway with a very good dog in it.

Est. 2014, house built c. 1790

Six rooms, six characters

Pick your view

Every room is different on purpose: named for the house's past lives, furnished from the antiques shop we never fully emptied. All include breakfast, real milk, and no key cards.

Kind words

From the guest book

  • The kind of place you plan the rest of the holiday around. Breakfast alone is worth the trip.

    Google review

  • Booked direct, got the nicest room for less than the big sites wanted. Will be back in autumn.

    Mark & Priya

    Guest book

  • Woke up to gulls and harbour bells. Faultless from check-in to checkout.

  • Our dog was greeted by name on day two. We were greeted by name on day three. Correct priorities.

Out the front door

Port Denning, on foot

  1. 1 min

    The harbour wall

Crabbing lines, gig rowers at dawn, and the best place in town to eat chips.

  2. 4 min

    Denning Bakehouse

Where our breakfast bread comes from. Go before nine or mourn the saffron buns.

  3. 10 min

    Castle Point walk

Round the headland to the old battery. Take the coast path back for the views.

  4. 15 min

    Penrose Cove

Small, sandy at low tide, and somehow never busy. Swimmers year round, wetsuits optional, courage not.

  5. 25 min

    The Pilchard Arms

Low beams, local ale, and a fish pie we would put up against anywhere in Cornwall.
